Traditional Massage

Mindfulness, movement, and deep relaxation.

In the hills of Northern Thailand, massage is more than a treatment—it’s a cultural practice passed down through generations. Rooted in Buddhist philosophy and traditional medicine, the Northern style emphasizes slow, rhythmic pressure, gentle stretches, and mindful touch to restore balance and vitality.

Set in serene wooden pavilions scented with lemongrass and jasmine, each session begins with a soothing foot cleanse before skilled therapists use hands, elbows, and body weight to ease tension and improve energy flow. The experience unfolds in silence, accompanied only by the sounds of rustling leaves and temple bells in the distance.

A Northern Thai massage is both grounding and revitalizing—an invitation to let go, reconnect, and feel the calm pulse of Thai tradition through every movement.

Self-Guided Walks

At Kanlaya’s the jungle starts literally at the bottom of the garden. You can explore the local area easily on foot and we can provide maps and guidance to suit you.

Kanlaya herself grew up in her family’s Hill Tribe village just a few miles upstream. That makes us the perfect starting point to trek the rivers, mountains, villages, forests, temples and caves in the region. There are easy river walks you can follow alone, but for the jungle, an experienced official guide is required.

Depending on your stamina, fitness and wishes there is a wide range of more or less challenging routes. All pass through the mountains, with soaring views to distant peaks, through verdant jungle, alongside teeming rivers and with traditional Hill Tribe villages en route.
